Dear Parent,
Your student is scheduled for the behind-the-wheel driver-training course at South Western High School. The six-hour course consists of basic driving instruction, defensive driving techniques, and roadway courtesy. While this course offers all basic instruction necessary for our students to become good drivers, home supervision is still essential to the ongoing development of your son or daughters’ driver habits and skills. Parents should make every effort to drive as much as possible with their son or daughter. The state of Pennsylvania requires that all permit drivers complete 65 hours behind the wheel to be eligible for their road test.
There is a $275.00 charge for your son or daughter to complete the behind-the-wheel training course. There is/was a $50 non-refundable deposit due at the time of scheduling. If your student calls to reschedule and we can call another student on the waitlist to take their scheduled time, then the deposit will still be applied to their $275 when they are rescheduled. If the instructor can not find a replacement or your student cancels or no shows they forfeit the $50 deposit.
When your son or daughter completes the behind-the-wheel training course and has displayed an adequate driving performance they may take the driving test with their instructor on or after their designated test date (date can be found on their learner’s permit). The student needs to schedule a test date and time in advance of their designated test date. There is no additional charge for the test.
Please be aware that if your son or daughter is driving during our summer program they need to be sure they can commit to their scheduled time. Please be aware that rescheduling is not guaranteed as the summer schedule fills up quickly and there may be no time slots available.
